Are you looking for a portable ice maker that can really crank out the ice? You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how quickly this little unit can produce cubes. The ice is not kept in a frozen compartment, so it will melt back into the reservoir. However, this machine will wake back up when the ice tray gets low and turn that melted water right back into ice! While this model may be a little large for a small counter top, it can produce enough ice in one day to fill over three 7 pound bags you’d buy from the store (the smaller bags). All you have to do is remember to keep the reservoir full of water.
Portable Stainless Steel Ice Maker
Let’s face it, you either love the look of stainless steel, you hate it, or you think it’s OK (Mitch Hedburg joke in there, in case you missed it). I love the simplicity and elegance of stainless steel. My entire kitchen is filled with stainless steel appliances. That’s why I was so glad to find a QUALITY ice maker with a stainless steel finish.
Over-sized Ice bucket holds 2.2 lbs of ice
The bucket on this model is huuuuuge. I mean that. If you’re not sure about what 2.2 lbs of ice would look like, think about the (smaller) 7-pound bags of ice you buy at the store. 2.2 lbs would be approximately 1/3 of that bag. This is easily enough ice for about 8-pint glasses to be filled about 3/4 of the way. Too much math? Just know that the basket is much larger than others on the market.
Choice of 3 Ice Cube Sizes (small, medium and large)
Yes, you CAN choose between 3 different sizes. However, it doesn’t make that much of a difference. The difference in size between the “small” and “large” cubes is barely noticeable. I’m not even really sure why this is an option at all. I guess it’s one of those things some guy came up with in a board room and the engineers begrudgingly created.
Enjoy a batch of ice in as little as 6 minutes
This is the absolute coolest thing (no pun intended) about this ice maker. You can have it up and running and harvest your first batch of frozen joy in less than 10 minutes. I would HIGHLY recommend chucking the first couple batches though just to make sure the innards are clean. Parts from the factory inevitably have oil on them from the manufacturing process that can spoil the taste and might not be good for you.
Produces 26 lbs of ice per day
Like I said above, this is more than three 7 pound bags of ice per day. If you’re using more than 26 pounds of ice per day you probably need an intervention and a one-way ticket to polar rehab. Of course, this device only STORES 2.2 lbs of ice, so don’t expect to wake up to enough ice to break out the wood chipper and cover your lawn with fake snow. I’d recommend throwing the produced ice in a cooler as the ice comes out a little wet (the ice is heated in the final seconds to release it from the mold). If you throw it directly in the freezer, it will clump up worse than your wife’s gravy.

The Igloo ICE103 is honestly one of the most well-received ice makers I’ve ever seen. You see a lot of people saying things like “I don’t usually review products but this one was too good to pass up.” This is a rarity among these portable ice machines which you can easily discover by doing your homework. For that reason alone I feel completely comfortable recommending this product.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here you’ll find some of the most frequently asked questions about this product.
Can It Be Plumbed In?
If you’re an extremely handy person you COULD pull this off, however, I definitely would NOT recommend it. It takes less than a gallon to fill the reservoir and that makes A LOT of ice. Just pick up gallons of drinking water from the store for like 50 cents and keep them nearby.
How Long Does the Ice Stay Frozen?
The ice will melt gradually over time, about as fast as you might expect it would when put in a cooler. The melting ice refills the reservoir and once the ice basket gets low the machine resumes making ice and fills the basket back up. If you leave the machine plugged in with a full reservoir, your ice basket will always be full or almost full when left alone.
Is the Ice Tray Safe to Put in the Freeze?
I would say yes. If it’s safe to hold ice then I would say you could put it in the freezer if you really wanted to. However, it’d be much easier to just dump it in a container with a lid to keep it fresh.
Is the Ice Clear?
This all depends on the water that you use. If you have hard water, you can only expect the ice to be cloudy. If you’re using purified drinking water then it should come out clear.
What Shape is the Ice?
The ice is sort of bullet shaped. It’s round on one end, flat on the other and has a large indentation in it where the rod used to freeze the water was inside of it.
Where Can I get a New Owner’s Manual?
If you need help or want a new manual call customer service at 1-800-968-9853.
Does it Have a Drain Valve?
Yes, it sure does. If you take a close look at the picture at the top of this page you’ll see the valve on the left hand side of the unit towards the bottom.
Does this Make Nugget Ice for Compulsive Chewers?
If you’re into chewing ice then you will be happy with this machine. The ice is small, has an indentation in the middle so it’s weak and breaks up easily.
If the Power Goes Out Does it Come Back On Automatically?
Unfortunately not. The power to the device will be restored, however, you will need to select the ice size again and press start to get it making ice.
